Historical Significance
The birthplace of President Andrew Jackson was believed to be in this place, on the property of the George McKamey cabin. Based on research, the Mecklenburg Chapter DAR selected this site for the monument. It was the first monument placed to recognize the birthplace of Andrew Jackson.

Monument Details: The Mecklenburg Chapter originally placed an iron marker at this location on Nov 22, 1905 and raised a committee to collect the money to erect a larger monument. According to minutes, all chapters were assessed to raise funds for the monument by the state society. J. L. Rodman donated the land, which was later transferred into the care of Union County. It is a 12-acre site. The foundation stones were taken from chimney of the old McKamey cabin where Andrew Jackson was born.
Acknowledgement: The Mecklenburg Chapter periodically cleans and checks in on the marker and lays a wreath during the holidays. It is listed in the chapter's inventory of markers and monuments.
