Monument marks the location of the birthplace of President James K. Polk. It was allegedly erected shortly after the original two-room log cabin was destroyed. It is located on the property of the President James K. Polk State Historic Site, which is a museum and education center and includes a family cemetery.

Monument Text: Here stood the house in which was born November 2, 1795 James Knox Polk, President of the United States 1845-1849 Erected by Mecklenburg Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution 1904
Monument Details: The Mecklenburg Chapter maintains the monument. The 10-foot tall monument is currently located at the President James K. Polk Historic Site, which is a museum and education center owned by the State of North Carolina. It is a NC Historic Site, purchased by the State in 1964 and developed into a historic site around the monument. The original stones were donated by Mecklenburg County commissioners in 1904. Irvin W. Durham of Charlotte built the original monument. The property was owned by A. Rhyne at the time of erection. The State of NC disassembled the monument to move it to make room for park buildings and rebuilt it in 1968.
