Historical Significance
Monument marks the location of Locke's Hollow, the spot where George Locke was killed by the British in the skirmish between East Trade Street and Sugar Creek Road.
Note: Original location of marker was in the centerline of North Tryon Street but was moved during street improvements in the 2000s. SAR patriot stone added to the base at that time of relocation.

Monument Details: The Mecklenburg Chapter maintains the monument. The original land was donated by Martin Davis, the rock base was donated by John Pharr, and the inscription stone was donated by David Parks Hutchison. The monument is currently located in the road right of way/City of Charlotte property. There are approximately 5 parking spaces. It is accessible to the public. The City paid for its transport when it was moved from it's original location to its curent location because of the road widening/light rail construction.
Acknowledgement: The monument and the area around it is cleaned by Chapter members every year or two as needed. The Chapter places a wreath on the monument each year during the holidays. The last cleaning was done in 2023.
