The DAR Library is a Family History Library Affiliate. The Family History Library has extensive microfilm collections of genealogical and historical records from around the world. Through our partnership with the Family History Library, researchers may rent microfilm from the Family History Library and then view it onsite at the DAR Library.
To get started, you will need to rent the materials from the Family History Library using the Family History Library Catalog. You will also need to create a user account in order to complete your order, so you may want to this first. It is free to all users and is easy to do. You can do that at the registration page.
Once you have registered, start using the catalog to locate materials you want to view. Keep in mind that only materials available on microfilm or microfiche may be rented for use at the DAR Library.
To learn more about using the catalog, visit the FamilySearch Wiki page at: https://familysearch.org/wiki/en/Introduction_to_the_Family_History_Library_Catalog
Once you find the materials in the catalog, you will need to place your order. All orders may be conveniently placed and paid for online via the Family History Library’s Online Film Ordering system. Be sure and select the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution as your family history center. We’re the only affiliate within the District of Columbia. Your materials will be sent to the DAR Library, where you can then view them in the Seimes Technology Center.
The DAR Library has a number of films from the Family History Library on extended loan. Be sure and check our online catalog as we just may have the film already.
